In a recent statement, the Rivers State Government defended its controversial decision to demolish and reconstruct the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, attributing the move to structural defects arising from a recent explosion.
According to the Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Joseph Johnson, the fire incident rendered the main building unsuitable for human use.
The statement highlighted that following Governor Fubara's inspection of the damage on the day of the fire incident, professionals were consulted to assess the building's integrity. Reportedly, dynamites were used in the attack, resulting in visible cracks on the walls.
The government, after considering repair efforts, opted for a comprehensive rebuild to ensure a structurally sound and fitting edifice. An alternative venue has been provided for the House of Assembly's activities during the reconstruction period.
