In response to the recent outbreak of violence at Local Government Council secretariats in Rivers State, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has strongly condemned the incidents. The clashes, sparked by disputes over the tenure of Local Government Council Chairmen, resulted in tragic fatalities including Inspector David Mgbada and Samuel Nwigwe, a vigilante member in Omuma LGA.
IGP Egbetokun, through Force spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, directed CP Olatunji Disu to intensify security measures statewide. The IGP deployed the Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to assist in apprehending the perpetrators responsible for the deaths of the police officer and vigilante member. He emphasized the commitment to bringing justice and warned against further attacks on security personnel.
Furthermore, Egbetokun urged restraint among residents and political stakeholders, emphasizing peaceful conflict resolution. The IGP expressed condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, acknowledging their sacrifices.
