Senator Sumaila Kawu of Kano South has revealed that he earns over N21 million monthly, contradicting the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission's claim of N1.06 million. His total includes office allowances and other expenses, fueling ongoing debates about transparency in lawmakers' salaries.

In a recent interview with BBC Hausa Service, Senator Sumaila Kawu of Kano South disclosed that his total monthly earnings exceed N21 million. This figure significantly contrasts with the N1.06 million monthly salary and allowances reportedly fixed by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) for senators.

Kawu clarified that while his base salary is around N1 million, additional allowances and office-running costs push his total monthly income to N21 million. This revelation comes amidst ongoing debates about lawmakers' salaries and allowances, with former President Olusegun Obasanjo previously criticizing the National Assembly for its remuneration practices.

The discrepancy between Kawu's disclosure and RMAFC's figures has reignited discussions about transparency and accountability in the Nigerian legislative system.
