Three students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, tragically lost their lives following a road accident on Friday, December 21, along the Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye highway. The crash involved a commercial Opel Safira vehicle, reportedly speeding before losing control and veering into the bush.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and provided details. The ill-fated vehicle, bearing the license plate Lagos AAA-126HE, was driven by Adekunkle Adebiyi, a resident of Awa Ijebu. Eyewitness accounts suggest the driver was traveling at an excessive speed when the accident occurred.
A male passenger, believed to be an OOU student, died on the spot. His remains have been deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu Ode. Two other victims, Dada Oluwanifesimi, an 18-year-old Mass Communication student, and Miracle Ogo Oluwa Daniel, 19, were rushed to Love and Care Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
Two additional students sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at the OOU Medical Centre on the Mini Campus. Authorities have recovered the vehicle and secured it at the police station for further investigation.
The Ogun State Police Command has expressed condolences to the victims' families and reiterated the importance of road safety. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and prevent future occurrences.
