Benin Republic's coach, Gernot Rohr, has praised Ademola Lookman for his exceptional performances in club and international football, stating he has done enough to win the CAF African Player of the Year award. Lookman’s stellar year includes key contributions for Atalanta and the Super Eagles at the 2023 AFCON.

Benin Republic's coach, Gernot Rohr, has expressed confidence that Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman will be crowned CAF African Player of the Year, following a remarkable year for both his club and country. Lookman, who has been nominated among the final contenders for the prestigious award, made significant strides throughout 2024.

The 27-year-old played a key role for the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he netted three goals and provided one assist in seven appearances. Additionally, Lookman delivered an outstanding performance for Atalanta, notably scoring a historic hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final.

With 11 goals and five assists in 18 games across all competitions for Atalanta this season, Lookman’s progress has been remarkable. Gernot Rohr, speaking to Foot Africa, praised Lookman’s development, noting that his early struggles in England and Germany are now behind him. The coach described Lookman as a "complete player" who has effectively combined his scoring ability with his playmaking skills.

Rohr highlighted Lookman’s journey from being an underdog to becoming one of the most influential players in African football, adding that his achievements warrant recognition as the continent’s best player this year.
