Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s new coach, admits the job is more complex than expected. After back-to-back losses to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, the Portuguese manager faces challenges with a struggling squad and internal changes. Despite a difficult start, Amorim is focusing on effort and long-term improvement.
Manchester United's new coach, Ruben Amorim, has expressed concerns that the managerial role is more challenging than he initially anticipated. Despite arriving at United with an impressive unbeaten record in league matches for the year, Amorim has faced back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, marking just the second time in his managerial career that he has experienced consecutive league losses.
Amorim, who took over at a time of internal changes at the club—including unpopular decisions by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the departure of sporting director Dan Ashworth—has stated that the situation is more complicated than what was originally presented to him. According to ESPN, the Portuguese coach is focused on maximizing his time on the pitch rather than holding too many personal meetings with players, leaving that responsibility to his assistants.
Currently, Manchester United sits 13th in the Premier League with 19 points after 15 games, trailing by eight points compared to the same stage last season, which turned out to be their worst in the league. Amorim's record in charge so far includes two wins, one draw, and two losses.
Reflecting on the team's struggles, Amorim emphasized the importance of effort, stating after the 2-0 loss to Arsenal, “Effort is easy, full sprint back and forward. Our focus is on that.” He believes that once the team shows effort, wins will follow, leading to further improvement in performance.
