Ruger expresses frustration over untalented artists rising to fame in Nigeria's music scene, citing heavy promotion as the key factor. He also criticizes autotune use in live performances and claims there are fewer than five genuinely talented artists in Nigeria. Ruger recently launched his record label.

Popular Nigerian artist, Michael Adebayo Olayinka, known as Ruger, has openly criticized the state of the country's music industry, highlighting a growing trend of untalented musicians achieving fame. He expressed his frustration on social media, pointing out that extensive financial backing, not skill or originality, is increasingly determining an artist's rise to prominence.

In a candid post on X, Ruger lamented, "The music scene has been hurting me because no matter how bad an artist is, once there’s money for promotion, they get attention." His statement reflects the growing concern that money and hype often overshadow actual talent.

The singer also took aim at the use of autotune, particularly during live performances. He commented, "Next time, tell your engineer to shut it down when you’re about to speak, coz you be speaking in Tunez wahala." Ruger emphasized that he prefers authenticity in his performances and does not rely on autotune to enhance his sound.

Ruger further asserted that there are fewer than five truly talented musicians in the Nigerian music scene today, claiming that many artists are more interested in creating music for fun rather than showcasing real talent. He added that he is among the talented few, although he did not specify where he ranks.
