The family of Wahab Adeniji is mourning the loss of their 24-year-old son, Gafar Adeniji, a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, who tragically died after inhaling teargas during the demolition of structures in Otto community, Lagos Mainland Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses reported that land speculators aided by policemen fired teargas canisters indiscriminately, causing chaos and displacing residents. Gafar, who was recuperating at home due to health challenges, became unconscious after inhaling teargas when their house was set on fire during the demolition.

Despite efforts to save him, Gafar passed away on April 2 while being transferred to Sagamu Teaching Hospital. His sister, Miriam, expressed grief over the loss of their only brother and lamented the lack of justice, indicating they had not reported the incident to the police due to doubts about receiving justice, especially with police involvement.

The Lagos State Police Command has not commented on the matter.
