Arsenal's Bukayo Saka reflected on his team's 3-0 victory over Monaco, highlighting the challenges the French club posed. Despite missed chances, Saka scored twice, helping the Gunners move closer to the Champions League knockout stages. Saka continues to impress with his attacking contributions.
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka acknowledged the difficulties his team faced in their 3-0 Champions League win over Monaco on Wednesday. Despite scoring twice in the match, Saka admitted that Monaco made life tough for the Gunners, especially after missing several opportunities to extend their lead in the first half.
“We created a lot of chances in the first half, but we didn’t take them,” Saka reflected after the match. “So, we had to endure a bit in the second half, but we stuck together, and in the end, we managed to score three goals. It was important to get the job done.”
Saka’s two goals, which helped seal the win, increased his tally in this season’s Champions League to four, continuing his excellent form. The match saw Arsenal dominate possession, but some missed chances, including efforts from Martin Ødegaard and Gabriel Martinelli, left the scoreline narrower than it could have been.
A key moment in the second half occurred when Monaco forward Breel Embolo failed to capitalize on a defensive error from William Saliba, giving Arsenal a reprieve. Saka then took advantage of a misplayed pass from Monaco’s goalkeeper, Radoslaw Majecki, to net his second. Kai Havertz added a third late in the game to put the result beyond doubt.
With two matches left, Arsenal's qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League is now firmly in their hands.
