Sean "Diddy" Combs’ lawyer, Anthony Ricco, has withdrawn from his sex-trafficking case, citing an inability to continue as counsel. His departure will not delay the trial, scheduled for May 5. Combs, facing multiple lawsuits and potential life imprisonment, remains in custody without bail since his September arrest.
Sean "Diddy" Combs' legal team has suffered a setback as one of his defense attorneys, Anthony Ricco, has filed to withdraw from his sex trafficking case. The motion, submitted in Manhattan federal court, cited Ricco’s inability to continue representing Combs but did not provide specific reasons.
Ricco assured the court that his departure would not disrupt the trial scheduled to begin on May 5. He emphasized that Combs, who still has five other attorneys on his defense team, would remain adequately represented. His lead counsel, Marc Agnifilo, was consulted before Ricco’s decision.
Combs, the 54-year-old music mogul and founder of Bad Boy Records has pleaded not guilty to serious charges, including allegations that he coerced women into drug-induced sexual acts. If convicted on the top charge, he faces a minimum of 15 years in prison, with a potential life sentence.
Beyond the criminal trial, Combs is also entangled in over 40 lawsuits from individuals claiming he drugged and sexually assaulted them. He has been held in custody without bail since his arrest in September 2024.
Legal experts speculate on how Ricco’s departure might impact Combs’ defense strategy, though his team has declined to comment on the matter. As the trial date nears, the high-profile case continues to draw significant public and media scrutiny.
