The national electricity grid in Nigeria collapsed again, affecting millions after a previous outage just 24 hours earlier. Electricity distribution companies, including Eko and Kaduna DisCos, reported widespread power loss. Efforts are underway to restore service, but the situation highlights ongoing challenges within Nigeria's power infrastructure.
The national electricity grid in Nigeria experienced a second collapse within 24 hours, leaving millions without power. The latest incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 9:17 a.m., just a day after the first collapse on Monday at 6:48 p.m.
Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) across the country confirmed the outage. Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), which serves parts of Lagos State, reported the latest system failure on its social media channels, assuring customers that they were working to restore power. “We hope for a speedy restoration of the grid,” EKEDC stated.
The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company also acknowledged the incident and expressed regret over the inconvenience, promising customers that efforts were underway to bring the grid back online. Meanwhile, the Abuja DisCo announced maintenance work on certain feeders, asking customers in specific areas to be patient during the outage.
On the previous day, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) reported a general system collapse, stating that it affected supply in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states. The DisCos’ updates reflect the ongoing challenges faced by Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure, highlighting the urgent need for improvements to ensure a reliable power supply for the population.
