Nigerian Senate Ethics Chairman Neda Imasuen has been disbarred in New York over fraud allegations. Court records show he took legal fees but failed to represent a client, leading to his permanent ban in 2010. His role in Nigeria’s Senate has sparked outrage over ethical standards in governance.

According to Peoples Gazette, Nigerian Senate Ethics Chairman Neda Imasuen has been permanently disbarred from practicing law in New York due to allegations of fraud and misconduct. Court documents reveal that Imasuen accepted legal fees from a client in 2009 but failed to provide representation, leading to his disbarment in 2010.

The report states that Imasuen collected a substantial sum from Daphne Shyfield before abandoning her case, violating New York’s bar regulations. Despite multiple petitions against him, he failed to respond and later fled to Nigeria. The Grievance Committee overseeing judicial conduct eventually revoked his legal license after repeated attempts to secure his compliance.

A court ruling officially removed Imasuen from the roll of attorneys, barring him from practicing law or appearing before any legal authority in any capacity. His appointment as chairman of Nigeria’s Senate Committee on Ethics has now raised serious concerns about the credibility of the country’s legislative oversight.
