Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed that the recent victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Edo State governorship election reflects the confidence Nigerians have in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. During a press briefing on Sunday, Akpabio praised the election process and emphasized that the outcome indicates strong public support for Tinubu’s administration.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Monday that Okpebholo, the APC candidate, as the winner of the election held on September 21, 2024. Okpebholo received 291,667 votes, successfully winning in 11 local government areas, while his closest opponent, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 247,274 votes in seven local government areas. The Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata trailed with 18,737 votes.
Akpabio highlighted that, despite some initial tensions, the election results signify the public’s ongoing belief in Tinubu’s capacity to lead the nation effectively. He described the victory as a significant achievement for Edo State and the APC, reinforcing the party's presence nationwide.
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, officially declared the results, underscoring the election's transparency and fairness. Akpabio called on all parties to accept the results amicably and work together to advance Edo State and Nigeria at large.
