Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe criticized President Bola Tinubu's cabinet reshuffle, labeling it as “renewed shege” for the Southeast. He expressed disappointment over the lack of meaningful change and alleged that Tinubu neglected the federal character principle in his appointments, calling for fairness and equity for the Igbos.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has voiced strong criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, claiming it exemplifies the continued suffering of the Southeast, a sentiment he describes as “renewed shege.” Abaribe specifically targeted the appointment of Bianca Ojukwu as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, replacing Uju-Ken Ohanenye, stating that such changes fail to address the pressing issues faced by his constituents.
In his statement, Abaribe expressed disappointment, asserting that the reshuffle does not signify any meaningful progress for the region. He lamented, “For my constituents, nothing has changed. They call it ‘Renewed Shege’ not ‘Renewed Hope.’” The senator further accused Tinubu of neglecting the federal character principle in his appointments, a concern he says has persisted for the past 18 months.
Abaribe emphasized the need for fairness and equity, urging the government to treat the Southeast with the same regard as other regions. He remarked, “The Igbos want fairness and equity, which are in the constitution. Treat us as you are treating everybody else.”
