In a recent defense of the 2024 budget, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, a member of the Appropriation Committee in the Senate, justified the allocation of N7.61 billion for the empowerment of traditional rulers, arguing that they play a vital role in society. Ibrahim, countering criticisms, questioned whether traditional rulers, as integral components of the federal system of government and Nigeria's historical trajectory, should be excluded from the national budget. He highlighted their responsibilities in addressing certain security issues, asserting that their inclusion is justified.
Responding to concerns about duplication of support, Senator Ibrahim contended that states are not entirely sovereign, relying on the federal government for assistance. He emphasized that the 7,000 projects captured in the 2024 budget are insufficient for Nigeria's population of over 200 million, urging support for a government focused on national development. In addressing claims of senators receiving ₦500 million each, Ibrahim denied such allocations, stating that his constituency received nothing and urging Nigerians to refrain from baseless allegations while supporting genuine initiatives for the nation's progress.
