Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf participated in a mass wedding initiative that united 1,700 couples in Kano. The grand wedding ceremony took place at the Kano Emir's palace mosque, with Kwankwaso representing the grooms and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf acting as the representative (Wali) for the brides.
While the mass wedding was decentralized, 330 couples were wed within the city, and five ceremonies took place at the Kano central mosque. The rest of the weddings were held at different local government levels to manage the crowd and facilitate movement.
The officiating master was Chief Imam of Kano, Professor Sani Zahraddeen, who oversaw the proceedings. A dowry of N50,000 was presented on behalf of each groom to the bride.
The Kano State Hisbah Board reported that over 4,000 prospective couples had registered for the state-planned mass wedding. The board successfully selected 1,800 couples who underwent medical screening as part of the prerequisites for the mass wedding proceedings, with 1,700 ultimately participating
