Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has resubmitted a sexual harassment petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, now backed by her constituents. The Senate Committee on Ethics will investigate the claims within four weeks. Meanwhile, tensions rise as Senate Chief Whip Tahir Munguno criticizes her for allegedly violating legislative protocol.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has once again presented a petition before the Senate, accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment. Unlike her previous submission, this new petition has been endorsed by her constituents, strengthening its credibility.

During Thursday’s plenary, Senate officials questioned whether the matter was already in court, to which Senator Natasha clarified that it was not. Following due process, she formally submitted the petition, leading to its referral to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct. The committee has been given four weeks to investigate and submit a report.

This development follows the rejection of an earlier petition on procedural grounds, sparking debates over legislative rules and transparency. However, Senator Natasha’s persistence underscores the seriousness of her claims.

Before the plenary commenced, Senate Chief Whip Tahir Munguno called her out for allegedly breaching Senate protocol by failing to stand still as the presiding officer entered the chamber. He accused her of repeatedly violating Order 55, Rule 1, emphasizing that such actions disrespect the institution. Addressing her directly, he urged compliance with Senate regulations.

As the petition moves to the investigative stage, it is expected to generate significant public interest, with both political and legal experts closely monitoring the outcome.
