Seven officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are currently missing after a Boko Haram ambush in Kaduna. The incident occurred on Monday, in the Farin-Kasa area of Chikun Local Government Area (LGA), while the NSCDC team was on a routine operation to inspect the national grid installation in Shiroro, Niger State.

The NSCDC team, which included nine officers and 71 other personnel, was mobilized after recent attacks on power lines in northern Nigeria caused widespread blackouts. While patrolling vulnerable areas, the team encountered stranded expatriates near Dagwachi village and offered them safety by allowing them to join the convoy. However, the convoy was ambushed by over 200 armed Boko Haram militants, who opened fire from a hilltop, catching the NSCDC team off guard.

Despite the surprise attack, the NSCDC operatives fought back fiercely, managing to kill over 50 insurgents during the battle. However, seven officers remain unaccounted for, prompting an urgent search operation in the surrounding bush. Those who sustained injuries are receiving medical care.

In a statement, NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale confirmed the attack and commended the bravery of the officers. Commandant-General Ahmed Audi condemned the assault, calling it a cowardly attack on personnel dedicated to the defense of Nigeria’s critical infrastructure. He reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to securing the nation's assets, even in the face of rising security threats.
