According to The Nation, “Shadows Wear Badges” became a chilling truth on Saturday when armed men in police combat gear abducted Justice E.G. Umokoro, a Bayelsa State High Court judge, in front of an eatery along Chief Melford Okilo Expressway. He was with his daughters when he was taken.
  • Justice Umokoro was kidnapped around 7 pm after resisting fake officers who claimed their “Oga” wanted to see him.
  • The attackers wore full police uniforms and masks, using a white Nissan Hilux to whisk him away.
  • Phones and ID cards, both his and the assailant’s, were left behind during the 50-minute struggle.
  • Separately, the NDLEA Director in Anambra, Daniel Onyishi, was freed after a ransom was reportedly paid.

“Shadows Wear Badges” when those sworn to protect begin to mirror those who harm. The symbolism cuts deep in a society where uniforms no longer guarantee safety, only uncertainty.

Have you ever faced a moment where “shadows wore badges” and trust became a dangerous gamble?
