In response to the ongoing economic challenges faced by Nigerians, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima expressed sympathy for the plight of citizens, particularly the poor. Speaking at an event in Abuja on October 14, 2024, he acknowledged the painful nature of recent policy decisions made by the Federal Government, stating that while these measures are necessary, they are not popular.

"My heart and that of President Bola Tinubu are with the Nigerian people. We empathize with what the poor and the youth are enduring," Shettima remarked. He stressed that the government had no viable alternatives to these tough choices, emphasizing the inevitability of certain policies despite their unpopularity.

Shettima's comments come at a time when Nigerians are grappling with increasing hardships, including soaring inflation and rising costs of living. Many citizens have expressed frustration over the government's lack of alternative solutions and have criticized the perceived disconnect between the ruling class and the general populace.
