Natasha Osawaru, Edo lawmaker and fiancée of singer 2Baba, surprised colleagues by introducing herself as "née Idibia" during a state assembly plenary. Her announcement sparked laughter and public buzz amid political shifts that saw her removed as minority leader. The revelation further links her rising profile to Nigeria’s entertainment scene.
Natasha Osawaru, a newly elected member of the Edo State House of Assembly and fiancée of Nigerian music star 2Baba, turned heads during a plenary session when she introduced herself with a striking addition to her name.
“My name is Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, née Idibia,” she said confidently, eliciting laughter and murmurs from her fellow lawmakers. A video of the moment, circulated online, captured the lighthearted yet surprised reaction across the chamber.
The mention of "Idibia" immediately drew connections to 2Baba, born Innocent Ujah Idibia, whose personal life has often been the subject of national fascination. Osawaru's public identification with the singer marks a notable development in the ongoing media attention surrounding their relationship.
Osawaru, representing the Egor constituency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been increasingly in the public eye following 2Baba’s announcement earlier this year confirming their engagement. The singer had previously clarified that their relationship blossomed after his separation from his longtime partner, Annie Idibia.
Monday's plenary, however, was not all smiles for Osawaru. In a shift of political tides, she was removed from her position as minority leader. The decision came after four PDP legislators defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), tipping the balance of power within the Assembly. Along with Osawaru, former majority leader Charity Aiguobarueghian and chief whip Yekini Idaiye were also relieved of their leadership roles.
