A businessman, Nuru Isah, was arrested in Bauchi State for allegedly flogging his 24-year-old wife, Wasila Abdulahi, to death over a disagreement about the ingredients and fruits for breaking the Ramadan fast. The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, in the Fadamam Mada area of Bauchi. According to Ahmed Wakil, the Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, the confrontation escalated into violence after the couple, who had been married for some time, argued over food preparations for the Ramadan meal. Isah reportedly used a cane to strike his wife, leading to her collapse.
Wasila was rushed to the ATBU Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, but she was confirmed dead upon arrival. Police immediately launched an investigation into the incident, and Isah was apprehended for questioning. Authorities also recovered the cane used in the assault as evidence. The police are conducting further investigations, and the deceased’s body has been placed in the mortuary pending an autopsy.
The police assured the public that justice would be served, as the Bauchi State Police Command remains committed to addressing cases of domestic violence. This tragic incident comes amid growing concerns about domestic abuse, particularly during sensitive times such as religious observances like Ramadan.
