Finnish authorities have frozen the assets of Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed Biafran leader, over allegations of terrorism. Arrested in November 2024, Ekpa faces charges of inciting violence and spreading terrorist propaganda. His assets, along with those of his accomplices, are now frozen as his trial approaches in 2025.
Finnish authorities have frozen the assets of Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed leader of the Biafran Republic Government in Exile, amid allegations of terrorism-related activities.
Ekpa, who has been in custody since November 2024, faces charges of spreading terrorist propaganda and inciting violence through social media. His arrest, alongside four accomplices, followed an investigation by the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Ekpa is believed to have instigated violence in southeastern Nigeria, particularly through his involvement in the controversial Sit-At-Home order.
Authorities claim the allegations against Ekpa are serious, and the case is not bailable. Ekpa is currently held in the high-security Kylmäkoski Prison in Finland and will stand trial in May 2025. His actions have drawn international attention, with calls for further legal action against separatists inciting unrest in Nigeria.
