Influencer Sir Jarus was arraigned by the Lagos State DSVA for allegedly assaulting his wife after she tried to prevent him from taking a second wife. The case has sparked online outrage and highlights issues of domestic violence and women's rights in Nigeria.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has arraigned popular online influencer Suraj Oyewale, known as Sir Jarus, for allegedly assaulting his wife. This follows Sir Jarus' admission on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that he beat his wife, Mrs. Oyewale Ayoola, for trying to prevent him from taking a second wife.

The incident sparked outrage online, with users criticizing Sir Jarus, especially since he previously praised his wife's sacrifices during difficult times. The couple has been married for 14 years and has three children.

After the backlash, Sir Jarus posted a video with his wife, suggesting they had reconciled. However, the DSVA announced on July 3 that Sir Jarus had been arrested. On July 4, the agency confirmed that he was charged with assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace at Ogba Magistrate Court.

The statement from DSVA read: "Surajudeen Oyetunji Oyewole (@SirJarus) has been charged to Court, (Court 5, Ogba Magistrate Court) on Two Counts: Count I: Assault against his wife. Count II: Conduct Likely to Cause Breach of Peace."

The case has drawn significant public attention, highlighting issues of domestic violence and the rights of women in marital disputes. As the legal proceedings continue, the public and social media users remain engaged, debating the implications of the incident and the appropriate response to domestic violence in Nigeria.
