Two soldiers were reportedly killed by unknown gunmen enforcing the sit-at-home order on Thursday at Obikabia junction in Aba, Abia State. The assailants, numbering over 15 and masked, attacked the military men and set their patrol van ablaze.
A circulating video shows the gunmen shooting indiscriminately before igniting the military vehicle. A soldier, seen emerging from the scene, appears to be the only survivor, with a voice in the video lamenting that his comrades were killed.
The attackers used an SUV jeep and a Sienna for their operation. As of the time of this report, the Abia State Police Command and the Military have not commented on the incident.
The Southeast region is under lockdown following the sit-at-home order declared by Biafra agitators to honor those who died during the Civil War. The fear of attacks by non-state actors has led to most residents staying indoors, as observed by correspondents across the five states in the region.
