Six out of eight local government chairmen of the Labour Party (LP) have severed ties with the party's gubernatorial candidate, Udengs Eradiri. The leaders, representing various constituencies, cite the alleged exclusion of party executives and structural neglect in the campaign as primary reasons for their defection.
Accusing Eradiri of failing to engage with party officials and sidelining the campaign council, the LP chairmen voiced concerns over the candidate's purported lack of maturity, citing issues of impulsivity, impatience, and a dismissive attitude towards party leadership. They further revealed Eradiri's financial unpreparedness for the election, claiming he sought funds from the party rather than contributing.
In response, Eradiri dismissed the defection as an act of betrayal, labeling the leaders as opportunists motivated by personal gains. However, internal strife within the LP deepens as one of Eradiri's loyalists accuses the defected leaders of accepting a substantial sum from the state governor, leading to a bitter dispute over the alleged funds.
