The Ondo State governorship election of November 16, 2024, saw a low voter turnout, with most polling stations nearly empty in the early hours. Despite delays and the absence of party agents, locals remained optimistic about the peaceful process, with tight security and incidents of alleged vote-buying.
The Ondo State governorship election, held on November 16, 2024, experienced a sluggish start, with voter turnout much lower than expected.
Between 7:30 and 9:20 AM, many polling stations appeared deserted, with only security personnel and INEC staff present. At Unit 49, Ward 2, CAC Grammar School in Akure South LGA, the voting process had not yet begun by 8:47 AM, as only a PDP agent was available.
The lack of agents from other political parties led to delays in the commencement of voting, as pointed out by PDP representative Jayeoba Dayo.
Despite the slow start, the election was held under tight security. In Akure, the DSS apprehended a suspected vote-buyer, underscoring the vigilance of authorities in ensuring a credible election process.
