President Bola Tinubu cancels Yazid Danfulani’s appointment as SMDF/PAGMI Executive Secretary, citing no vacancy. Fatima Umaru Shinkafi, first appointed by Buhari, is reappointed to the role. Known for driving solid minerals sector reforms, her reinstatement aligns with Tinubu's broader agency leadership changes, including new appointments in the education and development sectors.
President Bola Tinubu has revoked the appointment of Yazid Danfulani as Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF) and the Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (PAGMI).
In a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Friday, it was clarified that there was no vacancy in the agency. Consequently, Tinubu has reappointed Fatima Umaru Shinkafi as Executive Secretary of SMDF/PAGMI. Shinkafi, who was originally appointed during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has been credited with driving significant reforms in the solid minerals sector.
Her reappointment comes as part of a broader set of leadership changes, including the appointment of new CEOs for other agencies like the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), and the New Partnership for Africa Development (NEPAD).
