NAFDAC seizes ₦12 million worth of unsafe aphrodisiac and sex enhancement drugs in Sokoto, emphasizing the dangers of unregistered products and urging the public to buy from licensed outlets.

In a recent sweep of Sokoto markets, Nigeria's food and drug regulatory body, NAFDAC, has confiscated a large cache of unauthorized sexual enhancement products. The seized goods, valued at ₦12 million, represent a significant blow to illegal drug traffickers in the region.

Sokoto's NAFDAC Coordinator, Garba Adamu, revealed that the agency's routine patrols uncovered these unregistered items. The products, deemed hazardous due to questionable ingredients and lack of proper certification, also raised eyebrows for their explicit packaging. "We're urging citizens to be vigilant," Adamu stated. "Only purchase these types of products from licensed vendors. If you encounter any adverse effects or spot suspicious sales, please alert NAFDAC immediately."

The operation sheds light on a worrying trend of merchants attempting to offload expired or soon-to-expire goods in Sokoto's markets, including remote border areas. NAFDAC has pledged to intensify its enforcement efforts to curb this practice.

Beyond aphrodisiacs, the agency extended its scrutiny to agrochemical and cosmetic outlets, underscoring NAFDAC's comprehensive approach to consumer safety. Adamu emphasized the importance of checking for proper NAFDAC registration and expiration dates on all purchases.

This crackdown reflects NAFDAC's ongoing commitment to safeguarding public health. The agency praised the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including law enforcement and local trade associations, in supporting their mission.

As NAFDAC continues its vigilance, consumers are reminded to prioritize safety and legality in their purchases, particularly when it comes to health-related products.
