Edozie Akunyili, the son of the late Dora Akunyili, former Director-General of NAFDAC, has spoken out about the sacrifices his mother made for Nigeria, asserting that her death was not worth the challenges faced by their family.

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Edozie expressed frustration over the prevalence of counterfeit consumer goods in Nigerian markets and stores.

He reflected on the immense sacrifices his family made for the country, emphasizing that their parents' absence is a painful reminder of the toll of corruption and impunity.

Edozie revealed that Dora Akunyili's dedication to her work at NAFDAC led her to delay a necessary medical procedure, which later revealed cancer. He questioned whether the sacrifices made for the nation were truly worth the cost.

This poignant revelation comes years after Dora Akunyili's passing in 2014 after a two-year battle with uterine cancer. The statement adds a new dimension to the ongoing discourse surrounding corruption and challenges within regulatory bodies like NAFDAC.
