Omoyele Sowore criticized Peter Obi for visiting former military leader Ibrahim Babangida, calling him a "Nigerian ruiner." Obi defended the visit, citing the need for dialogue with experienced leaders on national issues. Sowore accused Nigeria's past leaders of contributing to its decline, reigniting debates on consulting former political figures.

Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, has criticized Labour Party’s Peter Obi for meeting with former military president General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. The visit, which occurred at Babangida’s residence in Minna, Niger State, has sparked a wave of reactions.

Taking to his X account on Thursday, Sowore expressed disapproval of Obi’s decision to engage with Babangida, whom he referred to as one of Nigeria’s "ruiners." He wrote, “How can someone claim to save Nigeria while paying homage to a key figure responsible for its challenges? Jokers!”

Obi had earlier described the visit as a chance to discuss national matters and draw insights from Babangida, whom he called a “father figure.” He said such meetings are vital for exploring solutions to the nation’s pressing issues.

This is not the first time Sowore has voiced concerns over Obi’s associations with Nigeria’s former leaders. In 2022, he accused Obi of being overly reliant on individuals like Babangida and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whom he labeled as the architects of Nigeria’s economic and political struggles.
