Omoyele Sowore, former AAC presidential candidate, explains why he won’t form a coalition with Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate. He criticizes Obi for being part of the corrupt political establishment and highlights his stance against non-performing politicians. Sowore asserts that there is no "lesser evil."
Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has shared his reasons for refusing to form a coalition with Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate. Sowore criticized Obi, stating that the latter is not fundamentally different from the corrupt politicians he opposes. He accused Obi of being skilled at "packaging" himself rather than offering real political change.
Sowore, who has been actively pursuing his presidential goals for years, noted that he had already been in the race before Obi gained significant public attention. Appearing on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Sowore explained, "I had already been running for president long before Peter Obi became well-known. Obi is just good at packaging; anyone can do that."
The politician went on to explain that allying with Obi would contradict his long-standing stance against politicians who have held office but failed to deliver meaningful results. "If I were to join forces with Peter Obi, I would be going against everything I believe in," Sowore said. "I can never support any leader who has held a political office and not performed."
Sowore also referenced his 2019 presidential bid, pointing out that Obi, who was Atiku Abubakar’s running mate, was part of the political establishment he actively opposes. In Sowore’s view, there is no “lesser evil,” and he remains firm in his belief that both Obi and Atiku represent the same political class.
