Spain secured their place in the Euro 2024 finals next summer with a hard-fought victory over Norway, a win that also saw Scotland booking their ticket to the tournament. The match in Oslo became the center of attention due to two VAR checks, particularly focused on the interpretation of the offside law.
Alvaro Morata seemed to have given Spain the lead in the first half when he tapped home a sliced clearance. However, a VAR review ruled it offside, claiming that Morata's striker's instinct to finish the opportunity was unnecessary.
The second half brought another VAR check, this time benefiting Spain. Gavi, the young Barcelona midfielder, scored the only goal of the match, sending Spain and Scotland into Euro 2024 after a prolonged VAR review.
Gavi's composure and precise finish secured their qualification, despite Erling Haaland's efforts for Norway. Haaland, a key player for Norway, couldn't break through Spain's defense, and the home team struggled to create significant threats.
With their places secured, Spain and Scotland will now look to chase the top spot in their group to become top seeds for next summer's Euro 2024 finals.
