Sultan Sa'ad Abubakar of Sokoto urged Nigerians to pray for their leaders instead of criticizing them during a climate change conference. He emphasized unity and faith in overcoming challenges, highlighting issues like poverty and insecurity in the north while calling for environmental responsibility and collective action.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa'ad Abubakar, called on Nigerians to intensify their prayers for leaders rather than criticize them. Speaking at a regional conference on climate-induced conflicts in northern Nigeria, Abubakar emphasized that enduring support for leaders and unity is essential to overcoming challenges. He urged religious leaders to guide followers truthfully, underscoring that ultimate salvation is divine.
Addressing the gathering, Abubakar noted the significant issues facing northern Nigeria, including limited climate change awareness, poverty, and insecurity. He cautioned against forces seeking to divide the region and encouraged the community to stay united. Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) President Daniel Okoh echoed these sentiments, calling climate change in the north a humanitarian crisis and stressing the need for environmental responsibility.
Kaduna Governor Uba Sani highlighted his state’s proactive climate policy, which focuses on sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, waste management, and water resource preservation, aimed at building a resilient Kaduna State. Both leaders emphasized the importance of collective action and faith-driven guidance for Nigeria’s progress.
