In a stern message, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, leading the Northern Traditional Council, has raised alarm over the escalating poverty, hunger, and insecurity in Nigeria, cautioning that the populace may soon revolt against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The warning, delivered during the 6th executive Northern Traditional Council committee meeting, emphasizes the urgent need for solutions to the socio-economic challenges faced by the citizens.
The Sultan highlights the role of traditional, spiritual, and diplomatic leaders in pacifying the agitated population, stressing that the quiet acceptance of current conditions might not last forever.
The statement coincides with recent protests against skyrocketing food prices and inflation in various states, prompting Tinubu's directive to release 42,000 metric tonnes of grains.
The International Monetary Fund acknowledges these measures as attempts to mitigate the impact of rising inflation on living conditions.
