Victor Osimhen was the hero for the Super Eagles as his brace secured a vital 2-0 win over Rwanda in a 2026 World Cup qualifier, reviving Nigeria's qualification hopes. Osimhen opened the scoring just 10 minutes into the match, converting a free kick from Ademola Lookman. He then extended Nigeria’s lead just before halftime with a composed finish, taking his tally to 25 goals for the national team. The victory, Nigeria’s first-ever win in Rwanda, moved them up to fourth place in Group C with six points from five matches.

Despite a spirited second-half fightback from Rwanda, encouraged by the presence of President Paul Kagame at the Amahoro Stadium, Nigeria held firm to keep a clean sheet. The Super Eagles’ solid defensive display, along with Osimhen's clinical finishing, made sure of the crucial three points. With this win, Nigeria now faces bottom-placed Zimbabwe in Uyo, where they will aim to continue their push for World Cup qualification. Osimhen’s performance was a timely reminder of his importance to the team, as he closes in on Rashidi Yekini’s record of 37 goals for Nigeria.
