Alhassan Yusuf has joined the Super Eagles camp in Kigali ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda. The midfielder arrived at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Wednesday morning, completing the squad of 23 invited players.
Yusuf, who plays for Major League Soccer side New England Revolution, missed the team’s first training session on Tuesday but is expected to participate in the evening session. His arrival brings relief to head coach Eric Chelle, who now has a full squad at his disposal.
Tuesday’s training marked Chelle’s first session in charge of the Super Eagles since his appointment. The Malian tactician is looking to turn the team’s fortunes around after a disappointing start to the qualifiers. The Super Eagles currently sit in fifth place in Group C with just three points from four matches, making Friday’s encounter against Rwanda a must-win fixture.
The three-time African champions will face the Amavubi of Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali. A win is essential if they hope to revive their World Cup qualification campaign and keep their hopes of reaching the tournament alive.
With all players now in camp, the focus shifts to tactical preparations as Chelle fine-tunes his strategies for the all-important clash. The team will have another training session before the match, aiming to build momentum and secure maximum points in Kigali.
