The Super Eagles of Nigeria have maintained their 40th position in the latest FIFA world rankings, as per the release from the Fédération of Internationale Football Association (FIFA) on October 26, 2023.
In the top ten, there were no changes, with European and South American teams dominating the rankings. FIFA World Cup 2022 winners Argentina continue to lead, followed by France in second place and Brazil in third. England's Three Lions are ranked fourth, and Belgium completes the top five.
Despite Nigeria securing a 6-0 victory against São Tomé and Principe in their final 2023 AFCON qualifier, the team had dropped from 39th to 40th in the previous FIFA world ranking published on September 21. In the most recent rankings, the Super Eagles held their position after a 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia and a 3-2 victory over Mozambique during the last international break.
Within Africa, the Super Eagles maintained their sixth position. Morocco, semi-finalists in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, held the top spot in Africa, followed by African Cup of Nations champions Senegal in second place. Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt rounded out the top five on the continent.
Lesotho, a team in the same World Cup qualifying group as the Super Eagles, fell in the rankings from 151 to 153. South Africa in the same group dropped from 63 to 64, and Zimbabwe retained the 125th position.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola world ranking will be published on November 30, 2023.
