The Super Eagles of Nigeria have maintained their 39th position in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Despite an impressive performance in the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers, where the team secured a 3-0 win against Benin Republic and a goalless draw with Rwanda, the Eagles have held their global ranking.
Within Africa, Nigeria ranks sixth, trailing behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, and Tunisia. Morocco leads the African continent as the 14th team globally, while Senegal is ranked 21st and Egypt 31st. Côte d’Ivoire, the reigning AFCON champions, occupy the 33rd spot, with Tunisia positioned at 36th.
Globally, there have been no changes in the top 10 rankings. Argentina continues to dominate at number one, followed by France in second, Spain in third, and England in fourth. Brazil rounds out the top five. Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, and Italy complete the top 10 teams worldwide.
Under the guidance of interim coach Austin Eguavoen, the Super Eagles are preparing for the AFCON 2025 tournament with hopes of improving their standing in the future. However, for now, their position remains unchanged as they continue to strive for better results in upcoming competitions.
