Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali delivered a standout performance for Chippa United in their goalless draw against SuperSport United in the South African Premier Soccer League.
Despite recently mourning the loss of his father, Nwabali played a key role, making four crucial saves to secure a clean sheet. His remarkable display helped Chippa United rise to fifth place in the PSL standings with 11 points from eight matches. This was Nwabali's first appearance since the tragic news of his father’s passing, which had caused him to miss Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda.
During his absence, Nigeria suffered a 2-1 loss to Rwanda with Maduka Okoye stepping in as goalkeeper. Nwabali’s return to action showcased his resilience and mental strength, as he denied several strong attempts from SuperSport United’s players, including Tashreeq Morris, Lyle Lakay, and Bradley Grobler.
His efforts earned him the man-of-the-match award, highlighting his focus and determination in a difficult time. Nwabali and Chippa United will look to build on this performance when they host Magesi on November 30.
