The Supreme Court has decided to reserve judgment on the appeal filed by Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate challenging the victory of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 18 March, 2023 governorship election in Rivers State.
The five-man panel, led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, made the decision, and the judgment date will be communicated to the concerned parties. Governor Fubara had been declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, securing 302,614 votes against Mr Cole's 95,274.
Despite losing at the state election tribunal and the Court of Appeal, Mr Cole continues his legal battle at Nigeria's highest court.
Notably, on the same date, the Supreme Court dismissed another appeal by the Allied Peoples Movement against Governor Fubara's victory, following the withdrawal application filed by the party's counsel during the court session
