The Supreme Court has set a hearing date for Atiku Abubakar's appeal in which he seeks to nullify President Bola Tinubu's victory in the presidential election. Atiku, the People’s Democratic Party's presidential candidate, also plans to present fresh evidence to support his claim that Tinubu submitted a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A hearing notice released on Thursday scheduled the proceedings for Monday, October 23 at 9 am. Atiku's legal team, as well as those representing President Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will address a panel of seven Justices.
The primary issue at hand is whether the Supreme Court has the authority to grant Atiku's request for fresh evidence. Atiku aims to present academic records of Tinubu that were obtained from Chicago State University on October 2, consisting of 32 pages. These documents were released on the orders of Judge Nancy Maldonado of the District Court of Illinois, Eastern Division, Illinois, United States of America.
The hearing is expected to determine the admissibility of this evidence and its potential impact on the presidential election's outcome
