The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by Tonye Cole and the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the election of Siminalayi Fubara as Rivers State governor.
The court ruled that the allegations of non-compliance with the Electoral Act and other irregularities were not substantiated by the appellant, deeming the appeal incompetent. Cole, the APC governorship candidate, had contested Fubara's victory, citing issues such as non-resignation as the Accountant General of Rivers State and alleged electoral irregularities.
Despite previous dismissals by the Court of Appeal and the Tribunal, Cole sought a reversal, urging the court to declare him the winner. The Supreme Court's affirmation solidifies Fubara's position as the duly elected governor of Rivers State.
