In a tragic incident at a shopping mall in Australia, an unidentified assailant stabbed six people to death and injured eight others on Saturday. The attack took place at a six-level shopping center in Bondi Junction Westfield, Sydney.
Anthony Cooke, assistant commissioner of New South Wales police, confirmed the casualties, including an infant among the victims. The assailant was confronted and subsequently shot dead by a female police officer on the fifth level of the shopping center.
Cooke recounted that the officer engaged the attacker, who had a knife, and ultimately discharged her firearm in response. The injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear as authorities continue their investigation into this tragic event.
