Nigeria Taraba Monarch and Son Hacked to Death by Gunmen; Investigation Underway

Gunmen have killed Tanimu Kunbiya, chief of Chanchanji, and his son Yusuf in Taraba. The murder occurred as they returned from a funeral in Takum. In a tragic event on Friday evening, gunmen killed Tanimu Kunbiya, the chief of Chanchanji, and his son, Yusuf Tanimu, as they were returning from a funeral service in Takum, Taraba State. Emmanuel Bello, the special adviser on media and digital communication to Governor Agbu Kefas, reported that the chief was brutally "hacked to death" in the attack. The governor expressed profound sorrow over the incident and directed security agencies to investigate immediately. He stressed the urgency of apprehending and prosecuting those responsible.

Governor Kefas has urged residents of Takum to stay calm while vowing to thoroughly investigate the crime and ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice. The governor’s commitment extends to eradicating lawlessness and banditry in the state, reflecting his dedication to maintaining safety and order. He also extended condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Chanchanji and Takum.

This attack follows another recent tragedy in April, when Abdulmutalib Jankada, the traditional ruler of Sansani chiefdom in Taraba, was shot dead by gunmen who invaded his palace. The ongoing violence underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures and collaborative efforts to ensure the safety of the region’s residents. Governor Kefas has pledged to work with partners to address these challenges and restore peace to the state.
