At the one-year memorial of Herbert Wigwe, his sister Joyce accused close associates of betrayal and mistreatment. She detailed family turmoil, alleged assault on her brother, and security concerns at the event. The accusations have sparked controversy amid ongoing legal battles over Wigwe’s estate.

The one-year memorial of the late Herbert Wigwe, former GCEO of Access Holdings Plc, took a dramatic turn as his sister, Joyce Wigwe, accused close associates of betrayal and mistreatment of their grieving family.

Speaking at the solemn event, Joyce revealed how individuals once considered family friends had allegedly abandoned them during their period of grief, leading to severe emotional and physical distress. She claimed that their parents, devastated by the loss of their son and the betrayal that followed, had suffered severe health challenges.

“People we thought of as brothers have let the family down,” she stated. “Daddy and Mommy trusted them implicitly, but we’ve come to see that they were not what we believed them to be.”

Beyond emotional pain, Joyce recounted an incident at their family’s village where her brother, Emeka, was allegedly assaulted by individuals she accused of betrayal. According to her, Emeka was forcibly restrained, thrown to the ground, and nearly run over by a vehicle on three separate occasions.

“They muzzled my brother, treated him terribly, and even threw him to the ground. The car almost ran over him three times,” she said.

She further alleged that Emeka was later arrested at night on accusations of clashing with the Department of State Services (DSS), but insisted that no one captured the events leading up to the altercation.

The tension reportedly extended to the memorial service itself, where Joyce criticized the presence of heavy security. She described how Herbert’s daughter arrived with armed personnel in a convoy of “no less than ten cars,” questioning whether their presence was truly to honor her late brother.

“You begin to wonder—did they really come to pay respects, or was it something else?” she asked.

Joyce also shared her mother’s devastation, recalling how she had devoted herself to caring for Herbert as a sickly child. The pain of betrayal and abandonment, she said, had only deepened her grief.

“If the friends and family we thought we had stood by us, my parents would have been comforted. But they haven’t been comforted at all,” she lamented.

Herbert Wigwe’s tragic passing in a helicopter crash in February 2024 remains a painful wound for his family. However, the events surrounding his memorial have raised deeper concerns about loyalty, respect, and the true nature of relationships in times of grief.

As the family continues to grapple with legal battles over his estate, Joyce’s revelations have added a new layer of controversy to the unfolding saga, leaving many to wonder what truly lies beneath the public tributes.
