A sudden eruption of gunfire in the Adamawa State capital sparked panic among residents, initially suspecting a possible Boko Haram attack. The chaos unfolded near the state police command's headquarters, leading to the closure of businesses as residents sought safety. As details emerged, it became clear that a clash had occurred between soldiers from the 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola and police officers at the state command. The confrontation stemmed from an altercation at Target Junction in Jimeta, where a soldier attempted to disarm police on stop-and-search duty, resulting in one soldier being shot in the leg. In retaliation, soldiers, armed with trucks and a tank, attacked the police headquarters, claiming the life of Inspector Jacob Daniel.

The police confirmed the incident, emphasizing an investigation and collaboration with the military to address the matter. The Brigade Commander cited a rescue mission for an injured soldier detained by the police, asserting that normalcy had been restored. Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri condemned the incident, urging calm and tolerance, emphasizing the potential lasting consequences on the state's hard-earned peace. A joint press conference between the army and the police was reported to be ongoing at the government house in Yola as the situation unfolds.
