Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, demands Governor Siminalayi Fubara adhere to the rule of law as a condition for peace in Rivers State. Their ongoing conflict raises concerns over political stability, with Wike emphasizing that respect for court rulings is crucial to prevent anarchy.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has set forth conditions for achieving peace in Rivers State, placing the responsibility on Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The two leaders have been in conflict since Fubara's assumption of office in 2023, despite efforts from President Bola Tinubu to mediate.
In a recent interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Wike emphasized that Fubara must commit to the rule of law for peace to be restored. He noted that there is no active conflict against Fubara, recalling his previous disputes with the federal government as an example of the necessity for lawful governance.
“Obeying the rule of law is essential for peace, and it is up to Fubara to make that choice,” Wike stated. He stressed the importance of following court rulings and cautioned that ignoring them could lead to chaos. Wike reiterated that peace will only come when all parties respect legal frameworks.
The ongoing tensions have led to unrest and violent incidents, prompting Wike to call on Fubara to prioritize adherence to the law over political power plays.
