In a significant escalation of tensions, Israel, with support from the United States and its allies, intercepted more than 300 drones and missiles launched by Iran on Saturday.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that while a small number of missiles landed on Israeli territory, including an IDF base in southern Israel, casualties were limited to one injured person.

This reprisal attack from Iran marks the first instance of direct targeting of Israel from Iranian soil. The assault is believed to be in retaliation for a recent strike in Damascus that killed an Iranian military commander, an action Tehran attributed to Israel. Throughout the night, Jerusalem resonated with loud explosions and sirens, as air defense systems engaged objects over the city.

President Joe Biden reaffirmed the unwavering support of the US for Israel, noting the successful interception of the majority of incoming drones and missiles. Similarly, the UK declared solidarity with Israel amidst the escalating tensions in the region.
