Gunmen attacked a mosque in Bushe community, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State during early morning prayers on Thursday, abducting at least 10 worshippers, including the Imam.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants stormed the mosque while prayers were ongoing, taking several people hostage. The community has faced repeated attacks despite the presence of security forces. However, the swift response of the Nigerian Army helped to prevent further casualties and damage.
Confirming the attack, Sokoto State Police Command spokesman, Ahmed Rufai, stated that security agencies are actively working to rescue the kidnapped victims. A member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, representing Sabon Birni B Constituency, also verified the incident and commended security forces for their intervention.
The attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in northern Nigeria, where banditry and kidnappings have become rampant. Authorities continue to face pressure to address these threats and improve protection for vulnerable communities.
